Silkback bearded dragons are NOT recommended for beginners.
Silkbacks require the same care as other dragons but dehydrate more quickly. Keeping a higher humidity in their enclosure is recommended. Also more frequent baths/misting is required.
Shedding:
Silkback bearded dragons shed more often.
During shedding do not pull on the loose skin. This can cause serious damage to the skin undearneath. Instead if needed, soak the bearde dragon and gentry stroke the loose parts so they shed off.
Pay close attention to the tail, fingers and face of the silkback during shed. Skin which has not peeled off during shedding can constrict the blood flow and cause issues such as tail rot.
Mating:
We do not recommend breeding silkback female bearded dragons. They have no scales to defend the skin from a biting breeding male and can sustain injuries during breeding. Causing injury to your bearded dragon for personal gain is never a good way to go.
Soaking:
Young silkbacks require 1-2 baths every day. Adults require a soak every other day.
